Important Update with a New Idea for Interactive Teaching!
Hi everyone,
What a great trip I had to Munich at the weekend! It flew in so quickly, that it’s like I was never away
The weather was fantastic, so I got to top up my solar panel and get me some happiness
Here are a few pictures from the trip:
During the meal at a beautiful Italian Restaurant (of like, 7 or 8 courses) the waiters would intermittently play some traditional Italian music and encourage the couples to get up to dance. Seeing as I am quite obviously single, the older waiters thought it would be nice for the “Belle” (as they kept saying *blush*) to dance with a random young (and handsome) waiter who spoke no English **awkward** It probably would have been much cooler if I actually knew how to dance without stepping on toes *insert imagine of final dance scene from Dirty Dancing*
Luckily, I had my shoes off at the time so his feet remained intact
I think he was glad to get away from me! haha
The next day I got to hang out with my good friend Annika (another great person I have been lucky enough to meet through my blog). Annika and I share a love for Magner’s Irish Cider, so naturally we gravitated towards the nearest Irish Pub to enjoy a chilled pint out in the biergarten.
I also got to experience my first Bubble Tea! What a strange, but delicious drink/food/drink/food ?? LOL
So that’s about the height of my wee trip. Of course I got no time to train, so I went to the gym on Monday, did a bunch of stuff, and I am still sore today!! haha!
I got a Killer workout done yesterday, but because I have 3 nights in a row this week – in preparation for a very special event THIS weekend *someone’s turning 30* - I will have to upload it tomorrow. However it is worth the wait, because it is 3 rounds of 10 exercises with Bridging Combo and everything – so I know you will all really love the variety in it.
Moving on, I have a new idea I want to run by you. I was approached by a company based in New York who run a website that host Online Live Interactive Teaching Classes. They have been following my YouTube videos and they think I would be a great addition to their library of classes. They have the technology that allows a small groups to interact via Web-Cam and high-speed internet and for someone like me to teach a live workout/exercise tutorial etc. There will be a charge for this service (not sure how much yet), but I am thinking this would be a great way to make what I do here more personal and be able to provide feedback and help you with form and motivation, during a class.
The more classes I can run per week, the cheaper I can make the prices – so I guess I am testing the water to see what the demand for a service like this would be?? There may also be the possibility of holding 1 on 1 tuition or a short seminar/talk on a particular topic that you can all tune in for. Or even a Q&A session. The scope for this is really very cool.
Having my business online is a hugely important to me, because setting up a client list here would mean eventually losing them all once I leave (which would mean a potential long period without an income to live on). With my plans to root myself elsewhere in the future, this gives me the perfect way to build up and maintain the means to achieve my goal to leave my current job, travel AND reach SO MANY of you all over the world! Eventually I hope to settle and have a large base of “ground” clients, but this is not the right time for that. I am training clients here at my house, but I can’t set up a base until I am staying somewhere long-term.
Please don’t panic!!
This does NOT mean that anything will change around here though. There will still be the usual free workouts and articles posted here, and I never want to seem like I have forgotten my roots
But change is a necessary component of my plan. That said, never will I neglect my readers here! There may be times (like at the minute) when I am super busy trying to transition from a regular/secure paid career to a more “uncertain” one, so I ask only for patience during these times and not to worry that I will ever forget myomytv (that would be like cutting off my own arm).
Sometimes I think it would just be easier for me to say “oh, I’ll just stick with what I know. I’ll do what I’ve always done, just because I know I get regular money … ” - except that’s not what I want for myself!! Above career and above making money, I see my future life (hopefully not too far away) as being married with children, and for my family have the best role models in me and my future husband. A mum and dad who love WHO they are and WHAT they do, and who have worked hard to get it without resenting their journey to get there! I never want my children growing up thinking you have to be miserable or bitter in your job or circumstances, and money is all that matters, or that things just get handed to you. Of course money matters (which is why I am charging for my more specialised services), but if I am happy with what I do, it carries over to all areas of life and people respect you for you seeing value and worth in yourself! Besides, if you are happy in what you do, you become less self-centred and can GIVE more of yourself to others, making a bigger difference to people!! To do this effectively – I need to get out of my comfort-zone! I’m starting to get annoyed that I am still in my comfort-zone … it’s become uncomfortable in my comfort-zone! LOL! But this is GOOD – this means I am ready to leave the nest and make my own way – eeek!
Anyway, I do a lot of talking about change, and it’s about time I put it all into action and start going where I am being drawn to go. But I must be wise about the timing and wise about the risks, so I need to think about covering my basic needs before I jump ship from nursing completely. Hence this post. I don’t see the point in just firing my decisions at you without a little history of my thought process. Some may think I am revealing too much, but it matters to me that I get this right and judge demands correctly – thus making better choices for where my time and energy is spent. This interactive service could be a great new string to my bow
Goodness me!! I started this post just to tell you about this new idea and ask what you thought – it turned into a whole speel about my future life! haha! Ah well, you all know me by now
It’s not the destination that’s important, it’s the journey there that really counts, right??
Hope you all have a great day, and I’ll be back tomorrow with the new workout!
Cheers
Marianne

MK, do whatcha gotta do as we say around these parts. You have given us (your readers) so much. You have posted tons of routines and information to keep us occupied. I wish you tons of success in all your future endeavors as you deserve it. Cheers!
Hi Marianne,
this is a quality blog and you are quickly becoming a very high-quality trainer. I think the online training is another brilliant idea which I hope will provide your readers a very good opportunity to perfect their form directly with you and will also provide you more “financial support”, which is always useful when considering an important decision for your career.
Cheers
Sarah
Heya! So glad you enjoyed the trip. Munich is such a beautiful place!! and…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I just had my 30th too! Go out and celebrate for sure. I have to say that if you were to do the online classes, Id so pay for them. It would be worth their weight in gold. I think its good that you are evaluating the big decisions with such a clear mind. Its important to weigh all the option but in the end you just have to do what you feel in your heart is right for you. Either way Im so super excited to see what you decide. I would absolutely join up to those online classes for sure. It definitely is all about the journey=) Quick question, with the classes, would you be able to view them anytime? Like they are pre-recorded? or live? Only asking cause I have a crazy work schedule. But Id love to learn as much as I can from someone as knowledgeable as you!
I cant wait to see the new workout. I hope its a toughie! Im in the mood for some challanges!
Have a great day!
Hi Marianne,
Lovely post, shows how much you care and how passionate you are about helping people and about the world of health and fitness. You should not be embarrassed about the transition to earn a living from your passion, you work so hard and deserve all that is coming to you!!
I am fellow Irish lass, who loves training, I am just starting to get involved with kettlebells and am also perusing a career as a personal trainer, with a view to someday making a living out of it.
Is there any advice you can give me with regards to courses and workshops I should be doing to benefit my technique and teaching skills? Mike Mahler is in Dublin soon, do you recommend i do his workshop or there is a place called wild geese fitness in Dublin, have you heard of them, they run kettlebell trainer courses…I am confused as to which one to do? Or any advise for starting off would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for all you’ve done with the website, it has been very inspiring to me and best of luck with your future you deserve every success that comes your way!!
Thanks,
Clea.
Hi Clea, I know that Mike is very good, so that might be a great thing to treat yourself to. I trained down in Wild Geese when Steve Cotter was there – and I still keep in touch with some of the guys there. Great bunch and very knowledgeable, so I would highly recommend them to anyone
Either would stand you is good stead for training people with KBs.
Hope this helps. Let me know how you get on
Fellow/local Kettlebelle
Thanks for the reply Marianne. I think I will try to train with both Mike and Wild Geese
Thanks for the advice!! Best of luck with the new chapter in your life and hopefully our paths will cross at some stage
Hey Marianne! I’ve only posted once, but I follow your blog on a regular basis
I’m a personal trainer myself, and I totally get that uncertainty as you are first starting out; especially because you are also relying on the people you train to be just as dedicated as you are! You are a quality person and trainer, so just have confidence that everything will go well! You love what you do, and it shows through your work, which will be passed on to so many people ans it will feel extremely rewarding!
I think the online classes sound awesome too, would pay for them too. Same question as last poster though about being able to access recorded workouts afterward – in my case though reason being I’m downunder in Australia so not sure how the timezones would work out. Thanks !!
I understand the need to gain a level of confidence in your choice before taking the leap, but you will probably have biased responses from your readers. Being that we love your blog and videos, they are most likely the “do it yourself” type. Taking your knowledge and running with it alone. This does not how ever mean that there will not be some who DO sign up for the service from your list of followers. You will more than likely get a large number of new clients who have never heard of you before. This is great! You can cross market yourself and potentially gain more readers/clients.
Diversity is key. Just like a financial portfolio, you want to make sure you are not left with nothing if your primary means falters for any reason. Make sure you do research on the company and the type of service. As for price, higher prices may make for smaller classes, but higher quality students. They will WANT to be there. I’ve seen this in the Martial Arts community all too often. Cheap is not always better, especially when it comes to services. There is a perception that low costs will drive the masses to you. Don’t undersell yourself. A Ferrari is not cheap, yet they can’t meet demand. Meanwhile, mass car producers of cheap vehicles have plenty of inventory collecting dust. I’d rather sell 1 Ferrari for $500,000 then to exhaust myself trying to sell 20 for $25,000.
Your services are worth more then you think and people will be willing to pay if they believe the quality is there. You are building that quality and brand recognition through this blog/videos and soon to be other ventures
Brian
Thanks for the feedback Brian. I agree about the pricing, I want to be fair to everyone, but not undervalue myself
Cheers!
I might not pay for regular classes but I’d definitely try it out at least once! I guess the only downfall is that people would have to have their own kettlebells and equipment at home….
