Six Pack Abs – Hide and Seek!

Hi everyone,
As I still have a long way to go to achieve my fat loss goal, I thought that even though I’m still recovering from my arm injury, I would still do a short intensive workout, but without the Kettlebells today.

Abdominals are the one area of my body I have neglected for a long time.  I just didn’t see any point in exercising such a small group of muscles while my body fat was still too high to see them.  Although I throw in the odd ab exercise into my workouts I don’t ever dedicate time to just abs. So today was the perfect opportunity to start.  It has made me realise that I really do have a long way to go.  Plus it made me see that I really need to tighten up my diet more never mind my abs!!  That will make so much difference. If I’m going to be killing my abs, I at least want the hard work to be visible.

The cardio aspect of my workout today is based around exercises that are high calorie burners, to maximise fat loss.

I set my Gymboss Interval Timer for 16 cycles of 20 seconds rest and 40 seconds max effort.  And I did 2 rounds of the following 8 exercises:

  1. Burpees
  2. Leg to Hand Transfers (don’t know the proper name for this exercise)
  3. Mountain Climbers
  4. Side Bridge Raises (right)
  5. Skipping
  6. Side Bridge Raises (left)
  7. Lunge Jumps
  8. Pikes

I am not going to pretend that this was my best workout. Watching it back, I can see many areas I need to improve on.  But I feel good that I’ve made a start at my ab training.  Now I just need keep it up.

Join me soon for my next workout.

Marianne

Can I just say how happy I am to have found your website? I just created my own blog to keep myself accountable on form (I tend to want to lift heavier at the peril of doing it right) and to share the routines that I love to do – also with kettlebells. Isn’t that a great piece of equipment??? :D Anyways, I was just on youtube and saw you – and found that you do the same thing! It is so refreshing to see someone sharing their love with others and having the focus be on how to lead a healthy lifestyle – not just doing it to look good or for ulterior motives. I have really enjoyed visiting your website and I have bookmarked your page so I will be visiting quite a bit. Thank you for doing this! :D

    • Hey Melissa, It’s great to find like minded people who, like you say, just want to share their passion! I’m glad to hear that you too are loving Kettlebells – they really have help me make so much progress!

I think creating a blog to record your journey is a great idea and I would recommend it, because it really does help keep you focused and motivated, especially when you get supportive comments like yours :)

I hope your blog goes well and you start achieving your goals.

  4. ‘As I still have a long way to go to achieve my fat loss goal’…What?!!

    • Ok, so this was when I was obsessed with being at 15% bodyfat … as you can see now, I have changed my goals to a more healthy one :D I know I cringe when I read that now. But it marks a journey …

      • I recently started working out with a personal trainer and he keeps talking about goals. He also thought I would really enjoy your site for the days when I work out on my own. So I was looking through the site and said “I got it! I found my goal! Strong and trim like Marianne” and then I read you still had a long way to go. So that was where my “what?!!” reaction came from. ;) Love your site. I did my first workout in the park today (Black Jack Body Blast). Loved it! Thank you so much.

        • Thanks Melen. The great thing about goals is that they evolve as you realise more about training AND your potential. This post was written over a year ago and I am no leanner now than I was then. However, I am a hell of a lot stronger and happier with both my performance and appearance.

Black Jack is a great workout – tough! Thank you for your feedback, it helps a lot.

Good luck with your goals :)

  5. Hi Marianne, I ma looking for a workout of yours that has a kettle-bell plank, single hand hold for 1 minute in it, but I cannot seem to locate it.

    Any pointers please?

    Best regards, Peter
