Myomy Story | Calling for a Guest Post | You Take the Spotlight

Hi everyone,

It struck me  the other day that I have been hogging the stage a little around here, and everything I write about is generally related to MY life  and MY issues etc.  And, while that is a huge part of the “personality” of myomytv, I feel it could be so much more if I quit being such an attention-seeker ;)

Every morning my main highlight is reading your comments here. I love to see people returning time and time again, and joining me on this journey. I also love seeing comments from people who are new or people who have sat silent for 2 years and never commented before.  The community spirit here is awesome!  Everyone is pleasant and respectful of each other and I almost never get negative comments.  I feel very grateful to have this wonderful platform to communicate to you with, so I want to hand the mic over to you.  Let’s hear your story, from centre stage, rather than the comment section.

Many people might identify with the things I talk about, but everyone’s life reflects a slightly different light when being faced with similar challenges and blessings – this is what makes humanity so abundant and brilliant; common threads with individual twists.

I want to open up the stage to you! It would be my pleasure to host a series of guest posts from my readers if anyone feels moved to tell their fitness story, share what inspires them, post their own workout (with video if they choose), or just talk about something important to them (like reaching a milestone, an awesome training day, a piece about inner strength).  I know that there are many people here who would love this … including me :)

Over the coming weeks, I will hopefully have enough material to post Your blog entries once a week.

If anyone is interested, then obviously feel free to comment here, but also email me at mvk_82@hotmail.com and call it “Myomy Story” and let me know your thoughts.

The post can be as long or short as you like, serious or funny, topic specific or random thoughts. ANYTHING (provided it’s not rude … although I’d probably get a kick out of that, others may not).  Obviously I would ask that it isn’t offensive.

Anyway, I am excited to hear back from you on this, so let’s get the fingers typing !

Cheers

Marianne

    • Michelle, you can always still write something and have a friend proof-read it for you? All the same, I hope you enjoy the series. I will still continue to take entries long-term, so you can maybe have more time to write yours.

MK, great idea and perfect timing for me. I just put together my first little training video. It was of course one of your’s I did outside this weekend. Anyhow, my friends got a huge kick out of it so maybe I can send the link with a little right up about my journey. Plus,I always like to read about what others are going through it is always nice to have confirmation you are not the only one. Cheers!

If I wasn’t camera shy I would be all over this. I think it is an awesome idea, although I come visit because of you and your great posts and they way you inspire us.
I am excited to see what people come up with.

    • Aw go on Mickela … film yourself ;) I’d still encourage you to write a little something. You are an important presence around here, and I am sure you could inspire many people with your story :) But don’t worry, there’s no pressure. x

  7. Great idea, Marianne!

  8. I love this idea!! I will send it my story of how I started training with kettlebells and it all started with my discovery of your blog almost 2 years ago!

By the way – I keep meaning to tell you that I have ” watched” you over the past 2 years from doing so many of your workouts and watching the videos and wanted to say how your physique looks so amazing now. You started out looking really good and with how much you have progressed in the past 2 years I can really see where you have put on muscle and I can tell that you’re a lot stronger now. Just another way to prove that consistency and patience pays off. You should show a side by side pic of you – one from now and one from a couple years ago. So much more muscle yet you are the same size and great shape. Really a great inspiration to keep us sticking to our kettlebell workouts. You prove that they do a body good.

  9. Marianne!! This is such a great idea! I’d love to do a guest post on mobility work/dynamic warm ups and post workout cool down. Ps…Graduating Sunday after 7 LONG years with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy!! Should I email you to discuss a post?!

  10. I want share my story how at 30 years old some 28 years ago. I was 245lbs on 6’1′ frame. I lost and have kept off a 50-60lb weight loss. And my theory that a body can be transform into a leaner body type.

  11. Hi Marianne,

Just wanted to say you’re an amazing woman. You’re very knowledgeable and inspiring. Thank you for your videos.

  12. Marianne,

I found your youtube page and website from benbruno. Reading your story of spinal arthritis peaked my interest. I’ve recently changed my diet and lifestyle based upon the movie Forks Over Knives and Martin Berkhan’s awesome site. Whilst I’m not 100% dedicated to the plant-based diet (whey protein), I’ve discovered that it is very beneficial.

I hope this isn’t presumptuous, but a local health magazine recently ran an article that might help for arthritis – http://hbmag.com/black-cohosh-many-names-many-uses/

Great site (I may try kettlebells once I’m finished with my current barbell routine) and good luck. Cheers.

    • Thank you Chris for the link and interest! I will check it out. Every little helps :)

Hope you enjoy the KBs after your current program. Any help needed, just ask!

      Cheers

      • Marianne,

May I provide some observations after watching your barbell videos? Have you been checked for lordosis or had an overhead squat assessment? The reason I ask is when you’re performing RDL’s on your May 24th Gym Workout video, your lower back is really arched. I had lordosis (unbeknownst to me until I read NASM’s CPT book… years of sitting in an office = tight hip flexors) and really intense lower back/pelvic pain after standing for a long time. Post workout hip-flexor and adductor stretches helped balance the pelvis. It’s been several months, and no more lower back pain.

Have you thought of a side view for the OH press? It’s difficult to tell the bar path from the rear view. Have you seen Mark Rippetoe’s OH press youtube videos or read his Starting Strength book? He’s one of the greatest resources for barbell exercises.

If I’m overstepping, please excuse this post.

        Cheers.

        Chris

        • Hi Chris, I don’t have a lordosis as such, but I have a very pronounced Anterior Pelvic Tilt (which is something I am trying to improve), and a butt LOL, but when I look at my dad’s side of the family, they are all the same – Anterior Pelvic tilt. But I will do the OH Squat and will do more reading into it. When I do the RDLs though, I never feel any effects from it in my low back. I get SI issues sometimes (but I still cannot pinpoint what flares it up). About 8 years ago, I had what you describe when standing for long periods, and I know my dad and my sister have the same problem.

All that said, the stretches you mention are in my program, along with RKC Planks and increased awareness of this “issue”. I’m reluctant to accept that there was any hyper extension there – though it looks that way

You are in no way overstepping, you can ask me or say pretty much anything around here. I don’t get offended by people who just want to help. It’s great that you are connecting all these dots and applying them to help others. Thank you! Out of interest, what is your back ground in?

          Cheers
          Marianne

          • Marianne,

Thanks for the RKC Plank info (looks much better than a normal plank). My formal education and career is civil engineering, but recently passed the CPT exam with hopes of a future fitness/training career.

            Cheers.

            Chris
